XIX საუკუნის 60-იან წლებში მრავალგზის სცადეს კოლოდიუმის შეცვლა სხვა ნივთიერებით, კერძოდ ჟელატინით. 1871 ინგლისელმა რ.მედოქსმა დაამუშავა ბრომვერცხლის ჟელატინიანი ემულსიის დამზადების პირველი პრაქტიკული ხერხი. შემდგომ ყველაზე ფართოდ გავრცელდა მშრალი ჟელატინის შრეები, რომლებშიც შედიოდა ვერცხლის ჰალოგენიდების მიკროკრისტალები. თავდაპირველად მათ ამზადებდნენ მინის ფუძეშრეზე (ფოტოფირფიტა), შემდგომ კი – ქაღალდისა და აფსკის ფუძეშრეზე (ფოტოქარალდი, ფოტოფირი (1887)).

ფოტოგრაფიის განვითარებაში უდიდესი მნიშვნელობა ჰქონდა გერმანელი მეცნიერის ჰ.ფოგელის მიერ ოპტიკური სენსიბილიზაციის აღმოჩენას (1873). ფოტოგრაფიის განვითარებაში ახალი ეტაპია კამერა-ობსკურიდან გადასვლა ფოტოგრაფიულ აპარატზე, რომელსაც ჰქონდა სპეციალურად გაანგარიშებული ფოტოგრაფიული ობიექტივი (იგი 1840 წელს შექმნა უნგრელმა მეცნიერმა ი.პეცვალმა). ფოტოგრაფიული ოპტიკის განვითარების შემდგომ ერიოდში მიმდინარეობდა ობიექტივის თვისებებისა (ათი შუქ-ჩრდილის გაზრდა, აბსერვაციის შემცირება და ა.შ.) და ფოტოაპარატის სრულყოფა (მისი ზომებისა და მასის შემცირება, მისი გამოყენების შესაძლებლობების გაფართოება). მძიმე და ვეებერთელა საპავილიონო და საგზაო კამერები (ისინი აუცილებლად შტატივზე უნდა ყოფილიყო დამაგრებული) თანდათან შეცვალა მცირეფორმატიანმა ფოტოაპარატებმა, რომელთაც მუშაობის გასაადვილებლად ჰქონდათ სხვადასხვა დამხმარე მოწყობილობა. პროფესიონალთა და მოყვარულთა ფოტოაპარატების სრულყოფასთან ერთად ვითარდებოდა სპეციალიზებული აპარატების (სარეპროდუქციო, აეროფოტოაპარატი, ასტროგრაფი და სხვა.) კონსტრუირება.

ANDREAS H. BITESNICH




Andreas H. Bitesnich was born in Vienna, Austria in 1964. After secondary school he made an apprenticeship in retail trade. He married at age 22 and has one son. During military service he shot passport photographs for identity cards. When an acquaintance of his, a fashion photographer assistant in Milan, showed him his black-and-white photography portfolio, he caught fire for photography. The next day, he bought his first camera. From that moment he photographed everything that came before his lens. He transformed the family bathroom into a photography lab. For two years, he led a double life, selling electrical appliances during the day and immersing himself into photography at night.
In 1989, he decided to make his passion his profession, setting up a studio. He acquired a middle-format camera for which he paid three weeks later after having completed a commission. Without taking loans he built up his equipment step by step. Not giving up in his belief that any ambition can be achieved through hard-work and determination, Andreas H. Bitesnich has come to be considered one of the most outstanding photographers. Especially in the field of nude photography he is among the best in the world.

Guy Aroch moved from Israel to NYC in 1990 to become a professional photographer. In 1993, Guy graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York and began working professionally. Specializing in Beauty, Fashion and Celebrity portraits, his images are considered strong, sharp and beautifully lit. Nude photography is a style of art photography which depicts the nude human body as a study. Nude photography should be distinguished from erotic photography, which has a sexually suggestive component. Nude photography should also be distinguished from glamour photography, which places more emphasis on the model and her/his sexuality, and treats the model as the primary subject.

Many photographers consider an art nude photograph to be a one that studies the human body, rather than the person. A photograph of a person that is meant to be recognized is called a portrait, and nude photographs often do not show a face at all. Nude photography is generally not a snapshot, but a composed image of a person in a still position. As an art form, nude photography is a stylized depiction of the nude body with the line and form of the human figure as the primary objective. Photographers sometimes use extremes of light and shadow, oiled skin, and shadows falling across the body to show texture and structure of the body.


Early photographers often depicted the nudity of women like the one we see here by Félix-Jacques Moulin. Many, like Edward Weston, Ruth Bernhard and Jerry Avenaim, preferred to depict the lines of a body as a piece of art. They imported from the terminology of painting the terms art nude and figurenude to avoid suggestions that their works were erotica or pornography.

Jan Saudek



Saudek's father was a Jew and the family was therefore persecuted by Germans. Many of his family members died in the Theresienstadt concentration camp during World War II. Jan and his brother Karel were held in a children's concentration camp near the Polish border. He survived the war and worked for a printer starting in 1950. After completing his military service, he was inspired in 1963 by Steichen's Family of Man to try to become a serious art photographer. In 1969 he traveled to the United States and was encouraged in his work by curator Hugh Edwards.

Returning to Prague, he was forced to work in a clandestine manner in a cellar, to avoid the attentions of the secret police, as his work turned to themes of personal erotic freedom, and used implicitly political symbols of corruption and innocence. From the late 1970s he gradually became recognised in the West as the leading Czech photographer, and also developed a following among photographers in his own country. In 1983 the first book on his work was published in the English-speaking world. Following this, in 1984 the Communist authorities allowed him to cease working in a factory, and gave him permission to apply for a permit to work as an artist. In 1987 the archives of his negatives were seized by the police, but later returned.

Saudek currently lives and works in Prague. His brother Karel Saudek is also an artist, and is now the best-known Czech graphic novelist.

His best-known work is noted for its hand-tinted portrayal of painterly dream worlds, often inhabited by nude or semi-nude figures surrounded by bare plaster walls or painted backdrops, frequently re-using identical elements (for instance, a clouded sky or a view of Prague's Charles Bridge). In this they echo the studio and tableaux works of mid nineteenth century erotic photographers, as well as the works of the painter Balthus, and the work of Bernard Faucon. His early art photography is noted for its evocation of childhood. Later his works often portrayed the evolution from child to adult (re-photographing the same composition/pose, and with the same subjects, over many years). Religious motives or the ambiguity between man and woman have also been some of Jan Saudek's recurring themes. His work was the subject of attempts at censorship in the West during the 1990s.

Some of the works of Jan Saudek have entered popular culture in the West, being used as covers for the CD albums of Anorexia Nervosa (band) (New Obscurantis Order), Soul Asylum (Grave Dancers Union), Daniel Lanois (For the Beauty of Wynona), and Beautiful South (Welcome to the Beautiful South).

I must be the luckiest man alive. I not only get to meet and photograph the world's most beautiful women, but when I'm not in the studio or on location I fly Chinook and Huey helicopters for the Italian army! My passion is to capture and share the sensual beauty of the female form. The female nude is, for me, nature's finest gift. I am so moved by this aesthetic that I try to translate what I feel into still images. I don't use many models as I prefer to form special working relationships with just a few. I think this is the most important part of taking a great photograph. I have very special feelings for my models and they for me. A recipe of trust, understanding, humour and friendship allows my models and I to relax, to relax in such a way that my camera becomes simply a tool for capturing the moments we share. Many people ask me whether I am a romantic when they see my photographs. I take this as a great compliment. It means that I portray women in the right light. I am romantic and in front of such extraordinary beauty I want to create poetry with my camera.
